Ride-hailing hardware and platform, New York & Boston. Figures measured against the process this platform replaced, twelve weeks after full rollout.

The problem

A ride-hailing operator in New York and Boston with a .NET and PHP monolith, rising infrastructure spend, and an in-vehicle experience assembled from devices that did not talk to each other.

The approach

Part-time engagement, roughly one to two days a week, so the work had to be leverage rather than volume: architecture, the CI/CD rebuild, and the hardware integration nobody else on the team could own.

The build

The monolith moved to AWS microservices — infrastructure costs fell 25%, deployments got 30% faster, and releases became repeatable rather than eventful.

In the vehicle: a digital taximeter, Bluetooth roof lights driven by the driver app, passenger tablets, Stripe terminals and Bluetooth receipt printers, working across different vehicle manufacturers over Bluetooth, OBD2 and CAN bus, then taken through state and national regulatory approval.

WebSocket connections to vehicles and driver apps were designed for the connectivity a moving car actually has: intermittent, and lying about it.
